They succeeded in crushing

They succeeded in crushing: They succeeded in crushing three major Allied invasions, but their strategy to form a coastal defense system to stop Allied forces from landing on the coast of Europe was doomed to fail. Most of the fortifications were only manned by a few Germans and a handful of soldiers, and were quickly overrun by the tide in 1944. The Atlantic Wall is in ruins today, mostly due to the harsh Atlantic weather that eroded the ramparts.
