During World War II: During World War II, Nazi leaders of Germany designed and built an extensive system of coastal defences and fortifications, called the Atlantic Wall, to prevent Allied forces of the United States of America, United Kingdom, France, and Free French forces of Vichy France, from invading into Nazi-claimed territory.
